DOI or digital object identifier is an assigned number to an electronic document in the global Internet that makes it much easier to find and use materials. In other words, this is a reference to a particular object. Frequently, this technology is used in scientific communities. The main feature is that objects with an identifier can only be deleted by the publisher or  organization, wich posted it.

The link consists of two parts - a prefix and a suffix that can include both numbers and letters in the Cyrillic format. Prefixes identify the publisher, while the suffix is the object number. It is important that one publisher can have an unlimited number of placed materials, but the suffix of each of them must be unique.

Why does DOI need to be assigned?

In scientific communities, the sources of information are fairly accurate and it is necessary to verify reliability while using any fact in the process of work. Through studying you could find a multiple number of contradictory, profound questions, facts and sources of literature. For this reason it has became necessary to made the locked state of storing static objects that can not be deleted or transferred.

There are a number of reasons why the appropriate format for accessing materials has become the most popular. The main ones are:

1. Guarantee of safety. Unlike sites or digital libraries, digital objects with an identifier will always be situated on the place of registration.
2. Versatility. All major publishers of the world recognized the convenience and security of the specified identifier.
3. The assignment of the DOI has a positive effect on the reputation of the author or publisher. In addition, with the help of the identifier materials can be placed in the world's leading scientific bibliographic catalogs.
4. If the article with the DOI is cited by a magazine belonging to such prestigious databases as Scopus, Web of Science, it is also entered in these databases, what significantly increases its significance.

The appropriation of DOI is highly relevant for Ukrainian authors after confirmation of the new Order of formation. Recalculation of scientific specialized publications (Order MES No. 32 of 15.01.2018). So, according to item 6. This Procedure for assigning to each published material the international digital identifier DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is mandatory.

Citation is one of the most important elements of scientific work, since in the process of work each scientist indirectly or directly affects earlier studies of his colleagues, indicating a reference to an electronic source. The huge problem was when a site has deleted or because equipment has failed, the link became inactive, and therefore the authenticity of the relevant statements became impossible.

How the material gets DOI?

To assign a digital object identifier, the publisher must enter into an agreement with one of the world's operators - the DOI Registration Agency or another company that has a legitimate reason for providing a such service. This agency accepts the obligations, such as:

  • Maintain the health of servers that host the publisher's materials.
  • Unlimited storage of objects and access to them by third parties.
  • Never change the DOI object, because this leads to the fact that the old quotation becomes inactive.

The publishing house "Internauka" is the official representative of Crossref (the world's leading registration agency) in Eastern Europe and provides services for joining the prefix in the Crossref register and registering DOI with publishers, universities, scientific organizations, libraries (more).

How to Find a DOI?

To search by ID number, you need to go to the official website of the International DOI Foundation or CrossRef and in the characteristic search box enter the number, which includes both a suffix and a prefix.

DOI is assigned to absolutely all editions of our Publishing House (prefix in the register Crossref 10.25313). This applies not only to journals and conference collections, but also to textbooks and monographs. In addition, if the author wishes, you can assign a digital indicator of each particular publication for an additional fee.

To each author after the assignment of DOI will be sent a certificate in electronic form
